Welcome to LoonChoir.com! We hope you enjoy the art and will come out to meet us at a show or drop us a line and let us know what you think.

Loon Choir formed in early 2009 and by that spring were playing regularly in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec with bands that include Ohbijou (Toronto), The Lovely Feathers (Montreal), Pree (Washington, D.C.), Rubik (Finland), Minto (Vancouver), and The Ghost is Dancing (Toronto). Also, shows were performed in Eastern Quebec, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island this past November as part of an Atlantic Canada acoustic tour.

The sound of Loon Choir is championed by its originality and the band takes pride in the fact that they don't sound like any one style, genre, or artist. Loon Choir is defined by their thoughtful lyrics delivered by the vocal balance of Derek Atkinson's sincerity and Nicole Yates' angelic power. The back-line is kept smooth and driving by bassist Jamie LeClair and drummer Khary Byron, while Dan Larmour and Brad Sheffield each bring the band's signature dancy hooks on guitar and synth.

In November of 2009, Derek drove his now dead car to Halifax and back (to Ontario) playing acoustic shows along the way in cafes and bars. The shows went well and the presence of Loon Choir in the Atlantic provinces is undeniable now. Derek was fortunate to meet some new friends, as well as spend some much needed time with (super fabulous, generous and loving) family along the way. Much time was spent taking in the spectacle that is the nature of Canada's amazingly beautiful East Coast.

A group of the Loons are planning another acoustic tour in July to Halifax, and then again with the full band in October or November.

Since the East Coast trip, the group reformed for a couple local shows before the holidays...but also began recording a new CD. 'Expansion Forces' will be released in May 2010, and we are super excited to bring quality representations of our sound to the masses.

Shows and tours are being booked for Toronto, Montreal, Kingston, EAST COAST, Vermont, Boston...and of course our friends and family in Ottawa and South Eastern Ontario.

More news soon will be available on the record, as well as cool video, photography and poetry projects.

>> I want to say thank you to all who have come out to support us! 2009 was amazing! From Veg Stock in May, to playing with amazing artists like Pree, The Lovely Feathers, Ohbijou,The Ghost is Dancing, Rubik , Minto, and The John Punch Band it has been a summer to remember! There are so many bands we have played with locally as well, which all deserve a shout. So we are working on getting a blog going for all the shows.
